THE MAIN STAGES OF THE INTERNET RADIO FORMATION HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
The paper defines the internet radio as a new kind of media that exists in the digital cyberspace and requires a detailed study. Using historical research methods the author reveals the main stages of appearance and evolution of the internet radio in the world and in Russia. In particular, the paper discovers that the first mentions of the web radio in the WWW are found in 1993. It is concluded that the rapid development of the internet radio started after 1995, when the speed of data transmission began to increase and the largest IT corporations made software for audio streaming free of charge. RealAudio program significantly advanced the technology of audio data streaming and played an important role in the evolution of the internet radio. The author pays special attention to the chronology of the main events that influenced the development of the online radio.
