Abstract: The comparison between G.R. Derzhavin's works and M.A. Sholokhov's creation is done for the first time. Sholokhov studied in three gymnasiums so with no doubt he knew Derzhavin's works, which were mentioned in A.D Galakhov's schoolbook. Derzhavin's poetry was in Sholokhov's library. Both of the writers had interest in the synthesis of arts. We can find Derzhavin's allusions in «And Quiet Flows the Don». For example, in interior (Shtokman's conversation at the mill) and in the portrait of Tatiana – Grigori’s daughter. These examples bring new artistic functions.

Key words: G.R. Derzhavin, M.A. Sholokhov, «And Quiet Flows the Don», allusions, reconsideration in images, artistic functions
