COLLAPSING BUILDINGS AND HALLUCINATORY HELL: NATURE AND URBANITY IN SELECTED NOVELS BY J. G. BALLARD
Abstract
Ballard’s work as a novelist is often divided into two distinct stages. First, there are his novels of the 1960s. Second, there are three novels Ballard published during the mid-1970s. My aim is to further an understanding of Ballard as a writer outside the generic confinements of Science Fiction. By juxtaposing two trilogies dealing either with natural landscapes or the urban cityscape I shall also point to the modalities these opposing settings insinuate.
