FIR-TREE ALLEY AND FLOWERS (ANTON CHEKHOV’S PLAY ‘THREE SISTERS’)
Abstract
Larionova M.Ch.
Keywords: Chekhov, vegetative symbolism, folk song, city romance.
The article explores traditional cultural connotations of vegetative symbolic images. Flowers and fir-trees represent a specific context for the characters of Natasha and the Prozorov sisters in Anton Chekhov’s play Three sisters. Natasha is viewed as a bearer of the urban petty bourgeois culture at the turn of the 20th century.
