“WONDERFUL LIFE OF JOSEPH BALSAMO, COUNT CAGLIOSTRO” BY M. KUZMIN AS NOVEL-BIOGRAPHY

The article is devoted to one of the definitions of genre in the novel by M. Kuzmin “Wonderful Life of Joseph Balsamo, Count Cagliostro”, a biography. A special attention is paid to the implementation of the categories of time and space in this novel, as well as the principles of the biography of the legendary personality. The historical genre canon and the modifications introduced into the genre by the author are analyzed. It is concluded that the transformation of the classical biography genre model is due to a new insight at the description of the man and his life, inspired by the poetics of modernism.
