PROTO-BALTIC SWADESH LIST RECONSTRUCTION
Abstract
Saenko M. N.
Keywords: Proto-Baltic Swadesh list, reconstruction, external comparison.
The article is an attempt to reconstruct the Proto-Baltic Swadesh list (Swadesh lists are used in lexicostatistics). The reconstruction is based on materials of the Lithuanian, Latvian, Prussian and Yatvingian languages, but the full Swadesh lists exist only in the first two languages. The materials used for the reconstruction are subdivided into three groups. The subdivision is based on the number of languages in which correspondences to the original list are found. Subgroups are singled out in each of the groups according to the degree a Proto-Baltic word reconstruction and dependence on external comparison.
