THE CULTURAL MATRIX OF DOMOVOY IN THE RUSSIAN MENTALITY

Abstract

The article describes Domovoy as the most persistent folklore character. The invariant structure and the semantics of the image of Domovoy are pointed out, i.e. the ‘cultural matrix’ which represents an array of stereotyped cultural information. The article also shows the fixed core characteristics of the folklore character, as well as the less stable peripheral attributes, including appearance, location and time characteristics, functions, forms of manifestation and means of interaction between people and Domovoy.
