THE SEMANTIC EVOLUTION OF WORD ‘ROCK’ IN THE HISTORY OF THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE
Abstract
The article studies main representations of the word ‘rock’ in the history of the Russian language. The history of the word and its interpretations (XI- XXI centuries) are described. The author states that the meaning ‘destiny’ was registered by historical dictionaries in XV century. In that time rock- destiny was identified as Divine predetermination. In the modern Russian language the word ‘rock’ is defined as unhappy destiny.
