APOCALYPTIC MOTIVES IN M.A. BULGAKOV’S SHORT STORY «FATAL EGGS»
Abstract
Key words: apocalypses, Bulgakov, “Fatal Eggs”, allusion, motif, ambivalence, intertextuality.
This research presents the analysis of ambivalent allusions as literal devices used for the introduction of apocalyptic motives in M.A. Bulgakov’s short story “Fatal Eggs”. The analysis of apocalyptic context in the narrative shows that all allusions have important and clear functions in the construction of the text. They are not accidental and should be studied as an essential part of Bulgakov’s artistic strategies. The analysis focuses on the key motif of the City in the narrative, introduced by ambivalent allusions to the holy City, Babylon and the Kingdom of the Beast.
