TRANSBORDER TELEVISION: HISTORY, EVOLUTION AND MODERN STATE

Abstract

Key words: cross-border broadcasting, communication satellites, satellite TV, the European Convention on Transfrontier Television.

The article describes the history of the emergence of the first satellite television, as well as the evolution of communication satellites development. The author presents an analysis of the country development by this criterion. It is presented the dependence of the cross-border broadcasting of specific reasons, including the political situation in the country and the historical aspects of the development of the region and the people of the country and it is described the current situation of foreign countries in the field of international broadcasting.

Special attention is paid to the role and influence of the EU on countries in the field of international broadcasting, the analysis and development of such important in global media community organizations as Intelsat satellite communication and Eutelsat. It is traced a parallel connection of globalization of cultural space with the development of broadcasting in the developed countries.

In the second part of the paper, the background and the process of creating the European Convention on Transfrontier Television is given, it is analyzed the main chapters of the Convention in the first and second editions, and other regulations governing the broadcasting activities of the European Union at the moment.

The article will be useful to specialists in the history of television, legislators in the media, international journalism teachers, graduate students and all those interested in the topic of formation and development of the international television broadcasting.
