The article aims to identify and describe the meanings of traditional Chechen politeness formulae in their pragmalinguistic and linguocultural specificity. The study is based on an authorcompiled corpus of 900 Chechen etiquette expressions, which includes fieldwork materials, recordings of spontaneous speech, literary and religious texts, as well as data from the author’s bilingual dictionary of speech etiquette. The methodological framework integrates pragmalinguistic, linguocultural and componential semantic analysis, typologization, corpus methods, and comparative procedures. The research reveals a functional-semantic system of Chechen politeness formulae represented by five types of meanings: sociative (28 %), voluntative (24 %), conative (19 %), religious-modus (15 %), and emotive (14 %). The analysis demonstrates that both meaning and usage are determined by the cultural dominants of Chechen society - namely the concept of nokhchalla, the value of respect, the norm of restraint, the agebased hierarchy, and Islamic ethics. The study also shows that the choice of formula is shaped by social roles, kinship relations, situational frames, and ritual contexts of communication. Religious-modus formulae exhibit the highest degree of structural stability and permeate other types of meanings, thereby sacralizing communicative interaction and reinforcing culturally sanctioned models of behavior. The findings clarify the culturally specific foundations of Chechen speech etiquette and provide a basis for further classification and lexicographic description of etiquette communicemes, including the development of a structured dictionary entry model.
