Relations of Alternativeness in the Fiction Text (on the Material of the Novel L. Irvine «Castaway»)
Abstract
Natalya G. Sklyarova (Southern Federal University, Rostov-on-Don, Russian Federation)
The article discusses the role of alternative modeling in modelling the world picture in L. Irvine’s novel «Castaway». Results of the research implying distribution and contextual methods of analysis testify that alternative relations, complicated by incremental values of sequence and explanations, serve for a detailed reconstruction of the image of the characters on the background of nature in the area of the equator. Constructions of alternative semantics, denoting the change of events in time and space, in the analyzed work reflect monotony of being on an isolated island, but at the same time underline its difference from living in a civilized world. Constructions of alternative semantics, containing xenismes and their interpretations, are used to introduce to the reader exotic realities. This research confirms once again the fact that the use of conjunctions of alternative semantics in certain contextual environment is for actualization of the version of alternative relations required to reflect such fragment of individual world picture that seems significant in terms of the content of fiction work.
Key words: alternative, fiction work, fiction world picture, language world picture, human consciousness, conjunction, alternative semantics.
