Metaphor is considered as a cognitive mechanism allowing to comprehend abstract concepts in more concrete terms. Practical material is cosmetic terms obtained by the method of continuous sampling from terminological dictionaries and directories, industry journals and also Internet resources dedicated to cosmetology as a section of Medicine. Methods were used to observe the comparison and generalization for sampling material from lexicographic sources by its subsequent systematization and also the methods of component and differential analysis to establish the semantic characteristics of terms in cosmetology.
The term educational potential is defined in metaphorical terms denoting key concepts of terminology of cosmetology. The significance for the theory of language is to describe the general patterns of the formation and functioning of metaphorical terms in cosmetology.
