Functions of Trilogue in the Work of Fiction

Abstract

The aticle is topical due to the interest of scientists to the communication in small social groups, the minimal of which is called triad, and due to the necessity of further investigation of trilogue treated by the authors as a compositional speech form, regularly used by writers and poets alongside with the form of dialogue.Trilogue is especially typical for such genres as a detective novel (story), humorous story, anecdote, tale. In terms of linguostylistic analysis the authors show the importance of the compositional form in question and its peculiarities and reveal its compositional, descriptive and expressive functions. The former include the function of the development of the plot, accentuation of culmination, creation and change of the rhythm of narration, while the latter include ideological and linguoculturological functions, the functions of changing the angle of view and of creating the humorous effect. The introduction of the third participant of communication gives the opportunity to focus the conversation of two other participants around him and to show the situation at different angles, influences the development of conversation, including the unexpected one, shows a greater number of views, reveals contrastive characteristics and tactics of two participants in relation to the third one, creates the humorous effect based on verbal or non-verbal behavior of the third participant.
