Abstract

Evgeny V. Akhmadulin (Rostov-on-Don, Russian Federation)

Peter Struve (1870–1944) is one of the most prominent Russian political figures, publicists and editors of the early XX century. The article is devoted to his journalistic activities at the post of his foreign opposition liberal journal «Osvobozhdenie» (1902-1905). His editorials written in the political review genre are multi-layered, multi-dark, they touch upon various problems: changes in the highest echelons of power, the trial of demonstrator workers, activities of the Ministry of Inner Affairs, documentary evidence of the actions of government officials, and responses to the New Time speech, the struggle against conservative journalism, the celebration of Russian writers – but the protest against autocracy for the rights of the individual and society penetrate through all the articles.

Key words: Struve P., journal “Osvobozhdenie”, journalism, liberalism, autocracy, Herzen and Katkov, conservative journalism
