The study is devoted to the analysis of similes as linguistic representations of fear in the novel by C. Ruiz Zafón “El laberinto de los espíritusˮ. It is revealed that similes express fears that can be classified by the reason provoking them and by the grade of intensity. In addition, similes expressing fear are used to create an image of fear-inducing characters, describe the physiological exteriorization of fear and attempts to calm someone down. The regular correlation between certain cognitive spheres in similes describing the feeling of fear testifies to the existence of the figurative paradigm.
