The article examines specific aspects of the ethno-linguistic life of the peoples of Dagestan. The insufficient number of specialized sociological studies that concern various spheres and areas of use of the presented languages, as well as forecasting their linguistic phenomena, determined the relevance of the research topic. Scientific novelty is expressed by the lack of fundamental scientific works on the problem of forecasting language conflicts in a multilingual area due to its interdisciplinary nature, as well as poor development of the concept of the future linguistic development of the Republic of Dagestan in the context of globalization and the coexistence of languages of different statuses. The subject of the study is the opinion of young respondents, whose gender ratio is uneven. It was revealed that in the mass consciousness of Dagestani youth as a whole there is a concern about some trends in the field of linguistics. The younger generation advocates for comprehensive support of linguistic diversity as part of the state policy of the region.
Key words: sociolinguistics, Dagestan languages, language situation, multilingualism, language viability
