Abstract

Sibul V.V.

Keywords: cross-cultural communication, competence, language category.

Categorization is connected with how the world is organized. According to L.S. Vygotsky language plays a crucial role in world cognition. Many researchers point out that language takes an active part in building up categorical links within vocabulary. Modern research in the field of lexical categorization helps representatives of different cultures and language communities to understand peculiarities in perception and usage of language units. This understanding is absolutely necessary for teachers of foreign language in developing and building up students’ skills of cross-cultural communication.
