THE PECULIARITIES OF THE MINERALOGICAL VOCABULARY USAGE IN COLOUR SYMBOLISM IN MODERN ENGLISH LINGUISTIC CULTURE
Abstract
The article is devoted to some specifics of mineralogical vocabulary as a means of colour naming in English linguistic culture. The hypothesis is that the mineralogical vocabulary is used in English fiction literature in accordance with its symbolic and mythological comprehension, English cultural semantics. The usage of analyzed mineralogical units ‘silver’, ‘gold’, ‘copper’, ‘crystal’, ‘brilliant’ as a means of colour naming of human appearance, household objects, flora, etc. implicitly includes the quality of ordinary minerals in allegorical sense with the inherent mythological and symbolic values peculiar to English linguistic culture, contributing to the emphasis of sensed, perceived and reflected things through the realization of some special significance that reveals the whole content of any literary work.
