Abstract

This article illustrates the effect of textual factors determining the choice of anaphoric means in nominating the referent which denotes the main character. This character in his or her turn is the thematic component in the monological text. These factors include: wedging the mentioning about another character into the narration about the main character; syntactical function of the thematic component the referent of which is the main character; the linear distance between the thematic components the referents of which are one and the same character; episode structure; the character’s narrative perspective. These factors influence the anaphoric character of the recurrent mentioning about the referent denoting the main character.

Keywords: thematic component, point of reference, anaphora, the main character.
